প্রভাকর সিং একজন প্রতিষ্ঠিত এবং জনপ্রিয় ভাস্কর শিল্পী । আমার সাথে প্রথম আলাপ হয় দশ বছর আগে জাহাঙ্গীর আর্ট গ্যাল্যারিতে তারই এক একক প্রদর্শনীতে । পরবর্তীকালে দুটো ভাস্কর্য ক্যাম্পে আমরা একসাথে কাজ করার এবং একে অপরকে জানার সুযোগ পেয়েছি । ওনার বিমূর্ত চিন্তা ভাবনাগুলো সেমি রিয়েলস্টিক ফর্মের মাধ্যমে বাস্তবায়িত করার প্রচেষ্টাই ওনার ভাস্কর্যের মধ্যে দেখতে পাওয়া যায় । বিষয়ের সাথে নানাপ্রকার উপকরণ ব্যবহারের যে সংমিশ্রণ ওনার ভাস্কর্যে দেখা যায় তা প্রশংসার দাবী রাখে ।ওনার বিষয় নির্বাচন মূলত মানবদেহ এবং পশু-পাখি – এর মধ্য দিয়েই খুঁজতে থাকেন জীবনের মূল্যবোধ । “আপেল” ওনার একটা গুরুত্বপূর্ণ বিষয় । আমার অভিজ্ঞতায় আপেল নিয়ে উনি যেভাবে ভেবেছেন বা ভাস্কর্যের মাধ্যমে যতরকম ভাবে তুলে ধরেছেন , সেটা অন্য কোন শিল্পী এভাবে দেখাতে পারেননি । ওনার কর্মধারা নতুন প্রজন্মকেও প্রভাবিত করছে । ভারতীয় শিল্পকলায় প্রভাকর সিং এর একটা বিশেষ যোগদান আছে.

Prabhakar Singh is an Indian contemporary artist based in Pune. Trained as a sculptor, his huge sculptures are remarkable and very well fitted into the environment, as if it’s part of it. I know Prabhakar more than a decade now, he believes in simple living high thinking. This thinking! so much shows in his art works. His gigantic sculptures simply explain the intricate stories of society’s situations…. respect for women, fight for existence, nature and many more. कला से कलाकार में एक अंतर्मन का सम्बन्ध होता है, और वह उसके व्यक्तित्व में अदभुत आकर्षण उतपन्न करता है हमें एक ऐसे मनोहर स्वाभाव के धनि मूर्तिकार प्रभाकर सिंह जी से हमारा परिचय १९९९ में काशी हिन्दू विश्वविद्यालय , दृश्य कला संकाय के मूर्तिकला विभाग में हुआ। वहां हमने मूर्तिकला में ऊँच्चतर शिक्षा हेतू मास्टर ऑफ़ फाइन आर्ट्स में दाखिला लिया था।
मूर्तिकला में माध्यमों का सार्थक प्रयोग के द्वारा सहज ही वो और उनका अति यथार्त मूर्तिशिल्प गुरुजनो का आकर्षण का केंद्र रहता था , उनके द्वार सृजीत नारी की मूर्तिशिल्प जिसमे इन्होने छोटे-बड़े लोहे के वासरों का प्रयोग किया था जिसे देखकर ऐसा अनुभव होता था की ये वासर कोशिकाओं का प्रतिनिधित्व कर रहे हैं। इन्होने बहुत से माध्यम में शिल्पों की रचना की है। ईश्वर से यही प्रार्थना है की इनके कला सृजन की यात्रा अनवरत जारी रखें। यही शुभ कामना है।

I had an opportunity to visit Prabhakar Singh’s studio one morning at Pune. His work combines great imagination and an unerring sense of form. The object and the narration within it always appear in totality on the same surface. He has spent a long time to understand human behaviour, nature and various elements of it exist with human life,as its integral part and have a lively relationship with it reflecting in his work. he is trying to grap the aesthetic experience,his forms that naturally seems like statements. his work from different period is very vivid in itself but its core emotions are same. Prabhakar ji’s work do not reflect any stillness, every moment of the sculptures seems like an endeavour to acquire some happenings.

एक अच्छा शिल्प और शिल्पकार वही होता है ,जिसमे ठहराव न हो ! शिल्प और शिल्पकार के रिश्तो की जितनी परिभाषा मैंने पढ़ी है , प्रभाकर जी के शिल्प और शिल्प को रूप देने की प्रक्रिया को देखकर.. मैं इन सभी परिभाषाओं को ओर गहराई से समझ पाया हूँ ! अपने शिल्पो की तरह सामाजिक ओर वैचारिक जीवन मे भी उनकी सादगी और लयात्मकता मैंने देखी है , शायद तभी धातुओं मे चलती सांसो को ये आसानी से महसूस कर लेते है ! ये मेरा सौभाग्य है की मैंने कई बार प्रभाकर जी को काम करते हुए देखा है! धैर्य ,दूरदर्शिता, लगन और आत्मविश्वास.. थोड़े से ही समय मे ही ज्यादा वैचारिक प्रक्रिया मे न डालकर, वो शिल्प मे एक घनीला विस्तार दे देते है! ये वो ही संवाद है जो आगे चलकर शिल्प और शिल्पकार की पहचान बनते है ! अपने शिल्पो के परवरिश की यही विद्या प्रभाकर जी को सम्भावनाओ को तलाशते, बहुआयामी और एक सवेंदनशील शिल्पकार बनाती है !

I got acquainted with Prabhakar’s work when we participated in a local art event together. I was drawn to the sheer variety and creativity his metal compositions have. I have bought some and have enjoyed the quirky sense in some.

Prabhakar Kumar Singh holds Gold medal in fine arts (sculpture) from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. He has awarded winner of the coveted Bombay art society Mumbai, All India fine arts and craft society New Delhi, SCZCC Nagpur and achieved the rising personalities of India award by Penguin publishing house New Delhi.
Prabhakar creates structures from scrap metal. His in-depth understanding of metal art explores different styles and implements emotions in his work. Although metal being hard and rigid, his sensitivity towards nature and social issues is involved in his process. The artistic skills to express functionality and style, reflects in his work. Prabhakar is motivated by artists like Piloo Pochkanwala and A. Davierwala who have been using metals like aluminum in their own ‘constructivist’ manner. Prabhakar has done multiple projects which have enabled him in engaging site-specific sculptures and public art displays. His chair series is loved by me as it represents residential and commercial spaces which carries his thoughts and personality. He is rooted personality. The artistic passion is seen in the process and reflects in the application sense, that he makes out of it.
Prabhakar feels, as there is little scope for intervening the field of public sculpture in India, the experiments in the field of sculpture become essential matter for him to study further. He imagines a public sculpture standing at the cross-roads as a monument to be built and demonstrate the voice of people of that locality.

During the construction of our new preschool, our Architect Saurabh Malpani (Artha Studio), invited Mr.Prabhakar Singh to see our school. We had one circular cutout on the first floor which we had yet to finalize. As soon as Mr. Singh saw that space, he had an idea. Not only did he visualize a sculpture and a piece of art but also gave it a living form which children could explore, touch, climb, learn and most importantly have fun with. He understood our early childhood educational philosophy that Toddlers Nursery believes in. Seldom do you see artwork that children can interact with,but what Mr. Singh created is a masterpiece that stands in the middle of our preschool. Mr. Singh took great care in making this artwork functional and safe for our children. I witnessed all the phases of his work and I must commend Mr. Prabhakar Singh for the dedication and passion that he has put into all his work. Prabhakar Singh is one of youngest sensation in the field of Sculpture. I have seen his work very closely since he was a student of Fine Arts at Banars Hindu University, varanasi. I saw very uniqueness in his work. His thought process while making sculpture reminds me of very prominent sculptures in our country and abroad. He associates his work with nature so beautifully that it becomes natural monument. His gold medal symbolizes his knowledge, relentless hard work and never to give up attitude. Apart from nature his great ability to turn junk metals into awesome sculpture is really treat to watch. In short span of 15 years he achieved laurels not only for him but for entire sculpture community. One of the great thing about his creations is that he never uses colors to paint his sculpture. He let them remains I the open to oxidized. Which in turn becomes natural. It is just the beginning of a great journey of Prabhakar Singh. It is my belief that he will climb mountain of success. I have known Mr. Prabhakar Singh for more than a decade now and he is one of the best people I have ever met. I’m truly lucky to have him in my life. To me he is more like a family and a mentor. He is prolific and a gifted artist, and his exquisite art works speak for themselves. His talent as a sculptor is unsurpassed. He is a creative genius and the way he captures not only the exact likeness of a character but also captures their personalities on different recycled mediums like scrap iron rods, iron balls, nuts and bolts and yet they are so impressive! Its hard to imagine that one can create such poetic and evocative sculptures. His thoughts behind all his sculptures have a very unique perspective. I enjoy the variety of techniques he uses in his sculptures, seeing his examples of art and discussing different approaches with him. I personally adore visiting his art studio and spend hours admiring his work. There are various such pieces of art that just invites you to be pleased. Over the course of these years I have seen him achieving some great milestones , and he has been bringing smiles and great artwork and creativity into the lives of many people.
